A typical day

Today followed our typical day on BEAM. We woke up bright and early so that we could enter the park as soon as it opened at 6:30am.

We had lots of great luck on our morning game drive. Each drive, we try to reiterate lessons from the previous day. Yesterday we had a guest lecture on rhinos, so today we went to the rhino sanctuary. There we were very lucky and saw white rhinos.

After the morning safari, we came back around 10am and had a big breakfast.

After feeding ourselves, we have lectures covering topics relevant to the things  we've been seeing in the park.

After two lectures and lunch in between, we go out on our afternoon game drive at 4pm. Across our 3 cars, we saw some amazing animals: giraffe, huge herds of elephants, a lioness, gerenuk, kudu, Grant's gazelle, oryx, among many other things.

After the game drive, we came back for another delicious dinner around 7pm. We have lovely settings for all our meals.

Once we finished dinner, students lead 'fireside' chats about Kenyan topics or scientific papers (we can't have fires in Meru because it's so dry).  These are great ways for students to informally  get involved and share their knowledge and opinions.

The days are long, but they're amazing and filled with animals!
